*NEW* JPMorgan Chase Achieve Your Mission (AYM) Grant


The primary goal of the grant, is to help nonprofits pinpoint the needs and goals of the organization, and determine a clear and realistic plan to meet those goals for long-term organizational growth.

In conjunction with the $3000 award, grantees will receive up to 20 hours of professional consultant time, provided by COAHSI. The consultant will meet with the grantee organizations to create a plan of action based on the original application, assessing the needs of the organization, and the best way to meet those needs in respect to the grant award. The consultant will act as a coach and advisor to the organization throughout the project. Only eight (8) grants will be awarded.

What will be funded:


Arts and culture nonprofits AND nonprofits with primary missions unrelated to arts and culture but offer arts and cultural programming may apply for arts-related projects which will increase their capacity to engage new communities, increase their capacity to provide art services, and increase their outreach.

Requests must fall into one of the following categories:

    • Technology (i.e. Software/Equipment purchases and upgrades)
    • Marketing (i.e. Social media campaigns; branding; logo redesign; website)
    • Staff Development (i.e. staff & board training)

What is not eligible:

  • Organizations with operating budgets over $500,000
  • Applicants that are not incorporated as a 501(c)3
  • Public or private schools, colleges, or universities
  • Federal, city, or state agencies
  • Programs which are essentially recreational, rehabilitative, therapeutic, or religious
  • Organizations which serve only their members
  • Endowments, scholarships, awards, or prizes
  • Capital campaigns
  • Real estate/building infrastructure
  • Staff Salaries

- Latest Audited Financial (Recent audited financial statement or latest balance sheet)
- Two (2) articles of press

FUNDING EVALUATION GUIDELINES:

Needs Assessment: 40% = Have they communicated a clear and urgent need for the grant? Does the grant request convey clearly what the problem is and its impact on the organization? Will this grant help the organization overcome this problem in the long-term?

Clearly Defined Goals and Measurables: 30%= How will they measure the effectiveness of the project? Do they have goals and indicators to measure the outcomes from the grant?

Artistic Merit and Cultural Significance of Organization’s Programming: 20% = Do the supporting materials show good programming/reporting? What kind of marketing do they do?

Fiscal Competence 10% = Does the organization have good fiscal habits? Can the organization successfully implement this project according to their budget and staffing?

JPMorgan Chase Arts in Our Communities Grant
The JPMorgan Chase Arts in Our Communities Grant supports artists and craftspeople as they create work about cultural expressions and heritage of Staten Island including, but not limited to, the immigrant/refugee experience. This grant finds a platform for artists and craftspeople to share their work with the wider community and involves the community in the creative process. Requests range from $1000-$3000.


The JPMorgan Chase Arts in Our Communities Regrant supports:

(1) Traditional artists and communities from immigrant groups working in a range of disciplines: music, dance, material arts, narrative and foodways, that are working to help preserve and pass down their cultural heritage.  

(2) Artists and arts organizations working in collaboration with communities to explore issues of immigration and/or share traditions from their culture that continue to take place on Staten Island.

The grant must culminate in a public display or performance of the artist's or craftperson's work. As part of the grant, the Council on the Arts and Humanities for Staten Island will assist in finding a venue and marketing the public display or performance.

  1. Applicant must not have received an Arts in Our Communities grant in 2011
  2. Applicant must live in Staten Island
  3. Applicant must be at least 18 years old
  4. Applicant must not be a full-time student at the time of the application or grant period
  5. Both individuals and groups (such as dance groups, bands, and visual arts collaborators) may apply
  6. Projects must take place in Staten Island
  7. Applicant must be in good standing for any grants previously received from COAHSI

FUNDING EVALUATION GUIDELINES:

Work Sample: 30% = Is the quality of the work sample sufficient? Does the sample show art/traditional craftwork or does it explore these themes in a powerful way?

Community Outreach (Public Component): 25% = How will their project be available to the public? Is it accessible to everyone? Which communities does it serve? Projects which address communities or artistic disciplines which are underserved will receive foremost attention.

Narrative: 30% = Is their project description, artist statement, and artist bio clear (does the narrative leave you asking a lot of questions)? Is the project relevant to the themes of the immigrant experience/exploring cultural traditions, if so, how relevant?

Budget: 15% = Do the numbers seem reasonable for the event/project proposed? Money can never be used for food/refreshments/purchasing equipment. Do they have a realistic artist fee, materials fee, etc?
